In the vegetable garden, summer is the harvest season but also the time for sowing and planting salads, cabbage and other vegetables to ensure your winter provisions.
All the cabbages
If you like to consume cabbages in the winter, you can sow and transplant various varieties throughout the summer.
The broccoli jets are seeded until the end of July. You will plant them as soon as the two small leaves appear until mid-August.
You can plant green cabbages throughout the month of July, cabbage through mid-August, and cauliflower all summer for your spring production.
If you enjoy the Chinese cabbage, sow them until the beginning of August and leave them there. You will consume them much of the winter.

Beans, turnips, leeks ...
Don't hesitate to sow snap beans and tenderloin beans until mid-August. They will give in early fall depending on your location and weather.
Sow the turnips until the end of August. Thin out when the plants have two true leaves. "Winter White" turnip can be stored in the ground, under a cover of leaves or dry ferns.
To have leek in spring (April and May), sow it in August and plant it in September. Pull the plants out when they are the diameter of a pencil. Cut off their tops, and before replanting them let them wilt for two days, spreading them out on the ground to harden them and protect them from leekworm.

Chews all winter long
Lamb's lettuce is sown until the end of September. Sow it in rows or broadcast in unpaved (simply raked) dry land by combining it with cabbage or leek crops.
Cover the seedling with a thin layer of dry grass to keep the soil cool.
Protect lamb's lettuce intended for winter consumption with a light coating of straw or dry fern.
Make the first crop of “big seed” lamb's lettuce by cutting above the collar, so small rosettes will form later.
